For the Camera-Shy Elder

Not Every Story Needs a Microphone

Some grandparents and elders don't want to be recorded or videotaped — and that's perfectly all right. These same printable sheets double as fill-in keepsakes. Hand one over with a pen, leave it on the kitchen table, and let them write (or dictate) their answers in their own time. The handwriting itself becomes part of the heirloom.

  • Print the sheet and let them fill it out at their own pace.
  • Sit beside them and write down their answers as they speak.
  • Mail one to a faraway relative with a stamped return envelope.
A note to print-shops & libraries

These sheets are free to print, copy, and share. Teachers, librarians, and youth-group leaders are warmly encouraged to use them in classrooms and community programs. The more conversations they spark, the better.
